California Extends Nation's Most Ambitious Climate Change Law

California Gov. Jerry Brown signed the nation’s most ambitious climate bill into law Thursday, extending the state’s climate change law by 10 years.

“This is big and I hope it sends a message across the country,” Brown said at the signing ceremony.

Senate Bill 32 requires the state to reduce emissions 40 percent from 1990 levels by 2030 and could give Brown leverage to extend California’s embattled cap-and-trade program .
